Peñafiel
Live history
Peñafiel has a lot of history, already in the time of the vacceos the man settled in the region in Pintia archaeological zone that you will be able to visit.
Our castle was built between the 9th and 18th centuries and is open to the public and houses the provincial wine museum, all of which can be visited.
Following the history we come to the best known of the lords of Peñafiel, the Infante Don Juan Manuel (1282-1348) whose funeral chapel is located in the church of San Pablo in our town.We have several houses from the 16th century preserved as they were, one of them can be visited, it is the house museum of la ribera, in it live 2 actors who recreate how people lived in Peñafiel around 1900, Mariano and Tomasa will make you have a good time. Information and tickets tourist office.
Peñafiel came to have 18 parishes, in one of them, the church of Santa María, we can see the museum of sacred art, a collection of Christian relics from the region of Peñafiel. Information and bookings at the tourist office.
Another of our jewels is the Plaza del Coso or El Corro as the locals call it. It is medieval and one of the first major squares in Spain, it was built for tournaments and jousting and we have evidence that as early as 1433 it was used as a bullring, hence its current name, El Coso. Nowadays it is used for bullfighting festivals and for the descent of the Angel, the most famous event of our great Holy Week. The tourist office is located here.Underground we have a treasure that are the cellars, in one of them is located our inn, so we are your best option to enjoy our most traditional dish, the lamb, enjoy it in a cave where the wines were kept in the past. There are others but they are private, we recommend a mid-morning stroll through the area of San Juan, maybe a local will show you around and even buy you a drink. There is also the traditional bodega La Olmilla, where there are shows and sometimes dramatised visits.
Peñafiel and its region have become a reference point for wine tourism, visiting wineries together with the great gastronomic, accommodation and cultural offer, make Peñafiel and its region the best destination in the Ribera del Duero to visit.

Mesón el Corralillo
A little piece of history
Asador El Corralillo is a traditional mesón that opened its doors in 1968, although the building in which it is located has a history that goes back much further in time. Before becoming an inn, this historic building was used as a place to store, store and sell wine.
In 1968, the building was transformed into a traditional inn called Mesón El Corralillo, preserving part of its historical charm and offering diners a unique gastronomic experience, adapting spaces for diners, combined with a cosy decoration, maintaining some original features that give it a special personality.
